Antique Bakhtiari Rug 10'5"x13'5" Rare Tribal Wonder
Antique Bakhtiari Rug 10'5"x13'5" Rare Tribal Wonder
A rare early 20th century tribal masterpiece from Bakhtiari weavers of the Chahar Mahal in western Persia. Four large shield motifs float on a charcoal/navy blue ground in a dramatic play between light and dark space. Smaller tribal elements sparkle in asymmetry like celestial bodies in the night sky. Superb natural dyes and lustrous hand spun wool combine to give a subtle dimensional effect. In addition to the charcoal/navy blue ground there are warm clear variations of madder red, variations of emerald, sea, and teal greens, gold, French blue, royal blue, coral, walnut, chocolate brown, and cream. This Bakhtiari is a confluence of indigenous creativity and glowing color scarcely seen.
