Antique Persian Tabriz Rug 12'0"x16'5" Rare Paradise Garden Masterpiece
Antique Persian Tabriz Rug 12'0"x16'5" Rare Paradise Garden Masterpiece
Rug No. 38461
Antique Persian Tabriz rug with a rare paradise garden design in a light toned palette. The rug’s artwork is drawn from the Mughal Charbagh formal walled garden designs built by Emperor Babur and his successors from the 16th through 18th centuries. Walled gardens with similar architecture were also built concurrently in Persia. Each panel or niche represents a part of the quadrant plan each separated by flowing water. This particular Tabriz rug was made in 1910 (lunar calendar date 1327) and bears the inscription “Good omen upon you”. There are twenty four panels with twelve individual depictions of the garden motifs. The colors are difficult to capture with a camera, but they are cream, olive green, yellow, oxblood, pale coral, pale celadon green, coffee bean, antique gold, and pale peach. A rare and beautiful thing.
